Salesforce DevOps Center has arrived. It makes software development faster, more accessible and cost-effective

A few weeks ago, Salesforce, the leading CRM platform, introduced the eagerly awaited DevOps Center. Developing software programmes or applications in this DevOps environment not only allows you to deploy new solutions 30% faster and save up to 25% in IT costs, but is also much less prone to errors. In addition, it makes it easier to connect highly technical talent with many other types of collaborators, further improving the quality of the output. At Actum Digital, we are already developing new applications for our clients using the Salesforce DevOps Center, and we’d love to share some insights with you.

“At Actum Digital, we are always among the first to adopt new technologies. Even now, just a few weeks after the launch of the Salesforce DevOps Center, we are already developing a client application there, which will save about 20% of the costs. The DevOps Center improves our work and speeds up our delivery, but the main benefit is for our clients: it helps them to innovate faster and stay one step ahead of the competition,” explains Petr Sommer, Consultant and Project Manager.

What is the most significant change the new DevOps Center brings? First and foremost, it replaces Salesforce change sets – a change that few will mourn, due to the time-consuming and tedious nature of the job. Customizing metadata and deploying changes from the sandboxes (i.e., the separate development and testing environments of individuals on the development team) to production is definitely faster with the DevOps Center.

Multi-party yet transparent collaboration from project inception to release

Another huge advantage is that the DevOps Centre bridges the low-code (no-code) and pro-code worlds, making it accessible to people who don't use a programming language. Thus, it allows administrators to participate in the development of a new software programme or application, it is open to insights from marketing people and last but not least, for example, C-level managers who may want to prioritize some tasks over other things during development.

The fact that the DevOps Center supports branching and merging of code allows multiple developers to work simultaneously on the same source code. This leads to a wide range of possibilities when it comes to the development team: it can easily consist of the company’s own developers as well as freelancers, without risking collisions in the code base.

Smooth collaboration is possible because the DevOps Center allows for managing the source code in a version control system (such as Git), detecting conflicting changes from different developers and resolving them before they are merged into shared environment. The DevOps Center automates the deployment process, reducing the risk of human error, and supports automated testing to validate changes before deployment.

A clear visual pipeline enables you to see exactly where you are in the development process at any time. Any changes and all previous versions of the project can be easily tracked. People on the team can immediately see what has been approved, what is currently being worked on, what has been moved to production, etc.

The pros and cons of the Salesforce DevOps Center from our developers’ point of view

Pros:

  • Automation of repetitive tasks and processes
  • Improved collaboration and communication between teams
  • Shorter time to market for new features and releases
  • Increased reliability and stability through testing and continuous integration
  • Better insight into the software development process

Cons:

  • Initial setup and integration can be complex and time-consuming
  • Effective implementation requires specialized skills and knowledge
  • There is a risk of decreased flexibility if processes are defined too rigidly

We make sure you always get the perfect service from us

Our developers are constantly working to increase their competencies. The Salesforce DevOps Center has duly complemented their proven expertise in other areas, such as the Salesforce Sales-, Service-, FSM or Experience Cloud. They recently obtained the Pardot Specialist certification – Pardot is a SaaS marketing automation platform by Salesforce – and are currently working towards the B2B Commerce Developer and MuleSoft Developer certifications. MuleSoft is an integration platform that helps businesses connect data, applications and devices, and automate workflows and processes, while B2B Commerce gives companies the tools to boost their e-commerce websites and cater to B2B buyers who make high-volume purchases. We keep close track of the latest technological innovations and are ready to offer you the most efficient and up-to-date solutions.
